Cannon School breaks ground for new performing arts center

Cannon School broke ground on its new auditorium and performing arts center on June 4. CONCORD – More than 300 students, teachers and friends of Cannon School attended the groundbreaking celebration for the school’s new auditorium and performing arts center on Tueaday, June 4. The private school off Poplar Tent Road is in the midst of a planned $7 million Building Bright Futures Campaign, which will add arts, athletic and Middle School facilities for the school’s 925 junior kindergarten through 12th grade students.

Woodlawn students’ video fights mental illness stigma

To clear up misconceptions and eradicate stigmas associated with mental health, a group of students at Woodlawn School wrapped up an elective called “Movies & Medicine” by producing a public service announcement that has won national attention. Collier Lilly Ride, 5K for Nicaragua, soup kitchen Lobsterfest

The annual Collier Lilly Ride 4 Life kicks off from Davidson College Saturday morning, while a “Saving Little Hearts of Nicaragua” 5K run begins around the same time on the Davidson Village Green. Meanwhile, the American Cancer Society will raise money with a 12-hour Relay for Life beginning Friday night at Bailey Road Park. Pro wakeboarders take on the lake

LAKE NORMAN – Some of the world’s top professional wakeboarders will be on Lake Norman this weekend, competing in the second of eight stops on the MasterCraft Pro Wakeboard Tour. The event comes as the sport is in the midst of a growth spurt, according to Josh Palma, a 28-year-old pro. Read more in SPORTS»
