A fire in Huntersville’s Cedarfield neighborhood west of I-77 left a family homeless Saturday afternoon.
Several callers to 911 around 2:14pm reported fire and heavy smoke coming from the house at 9208 Torrence Crossing Drive. The homeowner had recently returned home when he heard a noise upstairs and went to investigate, and found fire in the attic.
Firefighters from stations 1 and 2 responded within 4 minutes, according to a department news release. When they arrived they found smoke coming from the eaves and immediately brought a hose inside the house. Once on the second floor, firefighters opened the attic access door where they were immediately met with heavy smoke and fire. Read the full story

The Hough High boys’ soccer team is sitting atop the MECK 4A conference this week, undefeated in league play (12-0) with double the points of second place Hopewell. The Huskies’ forwards Michael Basnett and C.J. Bradley are a key reason for their success. Bradley transferred this year from Davidson Day School and has helped Hough develop a powerful attack, scoring 21 goals in 19 games.
