The bitterly cold arctic air will spend another day with us in the Lake Norman area, pushing temperatures down again overnight and creating heavy electricity demand that is bringing power outages across the region. It could be two more years before a new public swimming beach opens at Ramsey Creek Park on Lake Norman. Mecklenburg County parks officials told Cornelius commissioners Monday they hope the new 1/2 acre beach will be ready in summer 2016. Read more on CorneliusNews.net.

The N.C. 73 corridor east of Davidson has developed rapidly in recent years with thousands of new houses, but at least one major parcel will never see a bulldozer thanks to a year-end land conservation deal. A Statesville property owner donated 10.2 acres off NC 73 in Cabarrus county to the Davidson Lands Conservancy, the largest gift ever to the group. Read the full story

HUNTERSVILLE – Supporters of end-of-life “comfort care” have purchased a house on Stumptown Road in Huntersville as their second facility in the Lake Norman area. The Carolina Comfort Coalition, which runs Serenity House in Mooresville, say they hope the new comfort care home can begin accepting residents by May. About 1,200 EnergyUnited customers in Cornelius and Davidson were without power for about an hour and a half Monday afternoon after a switch failed because of water.
