Musicians from
W.A. Hough High and
Bailey Middle schools won spots in the 2014 South Central District Honors Bands during auditions last weekend. They were among more than 2,000 students from a 10-county area vying for seats in four bands – Middle School Concert Band, Middle School Symphonic Band, High School (9/10) Band, and the Senior High School (11/12) Band.

Work is underway on Cannon’s new arts center, off Poplar Tent Road in Concord.
CONCORD –
Cannon School has topped its $7.1 million goal in a two-year fundraising campaign that will pay for a series of construction projects to expand arts, athletics and middle school facilities a the campus off Poplar Tent Road.
It was the largest fund drive in the private school’s history. Officials said most of the money came from 370 current school families, grandparents, friends, alumni, faculty and staff. Read the full story
