In 1986, Davidson town staff told Frank Jordan the town didn’t need a taxi service. He tried anyway, and 29 years later he is still operating Lake Norman Airport Transportation, a taxi and shuttle service that drives passengers to and from the airport.
Today no one would dispute that the Lake Norman area needs shuttle services. And the options are now many – from limos to sedans to 15-passenger vans. While some offer amenities such as bottled water and suited chauffeurs, there also are no-frills options for travelers in need of a ride.
The number of shuttle services has expanded as new businesses have opened in the Lake Norman area and more people move to the region. Demand keeps these shuttles busy ferrying travelers along I-77 to Charlotte-Douglas International Airport, which has become the sixth-busiest airport in the country. Read the full story
