What happens when you ask artists to squeeze their work into a small format – like a postcard? That’s what the Lake Norman Art League did for its 2007 spring show. The result is a fascinating collection of “Lake Norman Postcards,” 5-inch x 7-inch works depicting scenes and themes of life throughout the area.
The show opened Saturday, March 31, and runs through April 28 in the league’s temporary gallery space, 108 South Main St., next to the Village Store in downtown Davidson.

The projected March 30 reopening date for Catawba Avenue near Fuel Pizza has come and gone and it looks like the sewer project that closed the road is still
going strong. Meanwhile, other utility projects are thick on the West Side and starting along Concord Road.

The Davidson College Dance Ensemble performs its annual Spring Show Friday and Saturday nights in Duke Family Performance Hall, featuring student and faculty choreography ranging from ballet and hip-hop to step and salsa. Read the full story

Wednesday is the first day of spring, signaling growth to come. Maybe it’s just a coincidence, but the town has scheduled a public planning workshop on the spring equinox to go over the proposed plans for the Davidson East development, on N.C. 73.
Also this week, a forum on CMS school decentralization tonight (Monday) journalist Ron Suskind speaks at Davidson College also tonight, the 5th annual community rummage sale takes over the the Green Saturday, jazz trumpeter Greg Hopkins gives a free concert (also Saturday), Davidson Community Players hold auditions for “Hello Dolly” (Sunday and next Monday, March 26), and a march against the Iraq war is Sunday. The Davidson Town Board on Tuesday approved, 5-0, the proposed Davidson Plan for Public Art, which will create a process for choosing, funding and implementing public art in town.

Creative Art Exchange has settled into its new home in downtown Cornelius and has begun registration for a new session of classes beginning March 19 in pottery, painting, drawing, digital photography and children’s art.
The non-profit community arts center, formerly known as the Icehouse Center, moved in January to the old mill on Oak Street in Cornelius from its former home on South Main Street in Davidson.

Davidson’s Town Board at its monthly meeting Tuesday night will hold public hearings on two development projects off Exit 30 and on proposed changes to the Village Infill Planning Area rules.
Meanwhile, events around Davidson this week include a Saturday dedication ceremony for the new Southeast Greenway, a gallery talk and opening reception at the college art gallery for “Davidson Collects: 1938-Present,” and lectures on Islamic law at Davidson College.
