Cold-related problems and malfunctioning appliances kept Davidson firefighters busy this week, and local crews helped put out a vehicle fire following an accident near the southbound on-ramp to I-77 Sunday. Firefighters assured a concerned resident that a cat found in a storm drain was not in danger, and investigated two unfounded reports of natural gas leaks. More information on these stories, along with a list of the week’s medical calls, may be found below.

In unrelated incidents, four vehicles were damaged when a driver slammed into a line of cars on N.C. 73, and major damage was reported in a two-vehicle collision off of Ramah Church Road. Nobody was hurt in those crashes or in two others where vehicles crashed into trees. Those incidents, plus a list of the week’s traffic citations, are found below. Read the full story

Beautiful red poinsettias mark the holiday season!
What a wonderful weekend we had. Christmas in Davidson brought the usual out-of-towners to our village but there were still plenty of familiar faces to greet us and catch up on visiting before the holidays. Saturday was a busy day with shopping at the North Mecklenburg High School poinsettia sale and viewing the Christmas parade highlighted with floats and floating snowflakes.
Around Davidson takes a moment to visit DUMC’s Gingerbread House, speak with two prominent Davidsonians, Karen and Gordon, and of course, interview a participant in Christmas parade. There is also an icy note to correspond with our deep December chill. Read the full story

Today marks the beginning of the wonderful celebration of our town known as Christmas in Davidson. This celebration has changed a lot over the years from a simple block party to a really big show that encompasses South Main, Sadler Square, the Brickhouse and even Davidson Commons. (This year’s festival will be scaled back a bit.) What a nice time to showcase our town each evening (tonight through Saturday) from 6-9 p.m. The weather should be crisp and clear. Just right for holiday cheer. But don’t forget the Christmas Parade Saturday at 1 p.m. that begins at Griffith and Main streets in Davidson and ends near the Cornelius fire station on N.C. 115.
Before focusing on Christmas and the holiday season, Around Davidson takes a moment to highlight a special birthday for Foy Ingram, a special honor for Shelley Rigger, a special Thanksgiving idea of Gina Mayes and a note about NMHS’s horticultural sale this Saturday. There is also a Noteworthy Note about a BIG entry in the North Mecklenburg Christmas Parade. Read the full story

My heavens! The last day of November! Where has the year gone? Hope that each of our readers had a wonderful Thanksgiving. Still hard to get the refrigerator door shut on the leftovers of turkey, sweet potato casserole, asparagus casserole, pumpkin pie and homemade rolls. What fun to have family in town, to hear the laughter, the screen door banging, leaf piles rising and weather still pretty enough to swing in the hammock. Thanks to David Boraks for letting me have time off and Paddy Millen for subbing on Thanksgiving Day. So nice to have uninterrupted time with grandchildren.
Today Around Davidson brings news of recent library awards, a new grandbaby, and a cruise catch-up. There is also an update on Doggie Fashion Show entries. Read the full story
