I am a senior over 70 years of age. I feel that there are not enough public services for seniors who live in Davidson and Mecklenburg County. I live in a subdivision off NC 73, seven miles outside the Town of Davidson, where there’s no public transportation.
I purchased my home about six years ago, therefore through the process of aging, my needs have changed. I do not drive anymore. I was directed to a special transportation services for the elderly. I did contact them and was told that this special (van) transportation service does not cover my immediate area, and I would need to have a disability.
There are times when my husband is either out of town or sick, unable to get me to doctor’s appointments, food shopping, the necessities of living. I have no family members living close by or living in North Carolina who can help me.
I do feel that Mecklenburg County, Davidson, Cornelius and Huntersville do not offer services for the needs of the elderly. As part of the aging population living in these communities, I feel that we are forgotten.
