MOORESVILLE – A tour bus carrying 45 soldiers from the U.S. Army Reserve overturned and slid down a small hill on NC Highway 150 in Mooresville Friday afternoon. The bus driver is facing charges after the wreck, which left many of the passengers injured, including one female soldier who was taken by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The Holiday Tours bus was one of two headed east in rainy weather on NC 150 near Carrigan Farms, on its way back to the unit's base in Salisbury. At around 2:54pm, the bus slowed for turning traffic, slid to the right and ran off the road near the intersection of Oak Meadow Road.
The reservists were from the 991st Transportation Company on their way back from training.
The driver was charged late Friday with Failure to maintain lane control, the State Highway Patrol said.
Mooresville Fire & Rescue reported that one woman was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte with serious injuries.
Emergency workers treated 14 passengers at the scene, while the remainder were taken to area hospitals: 16 by MEDIC bus to Carolinas Medical Center–Huntersville, four to Iredell Memorial Hospital in Statesville, and eight, including the driver, to Lake Norman Regional Medical Center in Mooresville.
The Mooresville Tribune is reporting that 29 of the 45 passengers were injured. The paper said 14 were evaluated at the scene, but had no injuries. The paper reported that all but one of the injured soldiers had been released from hospitals by Saturday afternoon.
South Iredell Fire Department, Mooresville Fire-Rescue, Mooresville Rescue Squad, NC State Highway Patrol, Iredell & Rowan County EMS, and Mooresville Police Department were all on the scene. Crews from the NC Department of Transportation began making repairs in the crash area after tow trucks removed the bus and environmental cleanup was completed.

20 hurt as bus with National Guard troops overturns in Mooresville
MOORESVILLE - Twenty people were hurt, one critically, after a tour bus carrying National Guard troops overturned near Carrigan Farms on NC 150 east of Mooresville on Friday afternoon.
The soldiers are with a National Guard unit from Salisbury, a Mooresville police spokeswoman said.
Of the injured, 11 were taken to Lake Norman Regional and Iredell Memorial hospitals. One seriously injured patient was taken by helicopter to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, police said.
Multiple emergency units were on the scene, including South Iredell Fire Department, Highway Patrol, Mooresville police, Mooresville Fire-Rescue, and EMS.
