Local emergency officials will test emergency sirens at midday Wednesday, July 10, at both McGuire Nuclear Station on Lake Norman and the Mountain Island Hydro Station. The tests will be heard across the area, but require no public action.
Sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station will be tested at 11:50 a.m., sounding for about three minutes. The full-cycle siren tests are performed once each quarter. More information on the Duke Energy website, duke-energy.com
If there were an incident at the nuclear plant on Lake Norman in Huntersville, the sirens would sound as a signal for residents to tune to a radio or TV station for an emergency message. County officials would use area stations to provide information to the public.
Duke also will test the sirens at Mountain Island Hydro Station at noon. See more on the Duke Energy website.
