The Lake Norman Kiwanis Club recently awarded six $500 college scholarships to members of Key Clubs at three local high schools. Meanwhile, the club’s first 5K Trail Run/Walk at Rural Hill May 18 raised $750 for charity.
KEY CLUB SCHOLARSHIPS
Key Club International, an international high school program sponsored by Kiwanis International, is the oldest and largest service leadership organization for teens, teaching leadership through service to others.
Each scholarship award winner volunteered for a minimum of 50 hours of community service and wrote an essay about what they learned about leadership or volunteerism as a Key Club member.
The winners are:
- Hough High School: Christopher Andrews, Julianne Curlis, Michael Hemstreet – Club adviser Vickie Waddell
- Hopewell High School: Elizabeth Beth Conner – Club adviser Anne Conner
- Lake Norman Charter – Sarah Fletcher, Radhika Wakankar – Club adviser Leigh Anne Williams
RACE RAISES $750
The Lake Norman Kiwanis Club is thanking sponsors, volunteers, walkers, and runners who helped raise more than $750 for MusicalMinds NC and other charities during the inaugural Lake Norman Kiwanis 5k Trail Walk/Run at Rural Hill on May 18. Medals were awarded to all who finished the race.
