Get ready for more ways to watch first-run movies or TV series such as “True Blood” or “Game of Thrones.” MI-Connection Communication System on Wednesday unveiled a new service that lets HBO and Cinemax subscribers on the town-owned cable network watch programs on any of their devices – from TVs to computers to tablets.
The cable company, owned by the towns of Davidson and Mooresville, has about 15,350 customers in the Lake Norman area, including the two towns, Cornelius, and parts of Mecklenburg and Iredell counties.
The deal means customers who subscribe to the premium movie channels can now watch more 1,700 titles online or on the go, just by signing in with their MI-Connection user information.
The offerings include every episode of every season of series including “Game of Thrones,” “True Blood,” and “Boardwalk Empire,” as well as older series from “The Sopranos” and “Sex and the City” to “Deadwood.” The programming also includes HBO original films, miniseries, sports, documentaries and specials.
NEW VIDEO ON DEMAND OFFERINGS
Wednesday’s announcement is the latest expansion of MI-Connection’s services. The company also recently upgraded its Video on Demand (VOD) system, adding titles and improving the on-screen interface used to search for and watch programs. The menu in programs actually download faster, and the menu is more organized.
In addition, the number of titles has grown by 60 percent, from 2,500 hours to more than 8,000 hours. Meanwhile, many movie titles now are available in HD.
The new video offerings are part of MI-Connection’s efforts to stay up with the latest technology and to add customers. The system has lost money since the towns acquired it in 2007, but it has shown some growth in recent quarters, company officials say. CEO David Auger said in April that the expanded Video on Demand service was already generating new revenues.
