Three professors who all joined the Davidson College faculty in 2007 have been granted tenure. The college’s trustees in a meeting Tuesday approved tenure and promoted Caroline Fache, Maria Fackler and Hilton Kelly.
Meanwhile, two other professors are retiring, and adding the title “professor emeritus.” They are economics professor and vice president for academic affairs Clark Ross and history professor Ralph Levering.
Caroline Beschea Fache is promoted to associate professor of French, effective with the 2013-14 school year. She came to Davidson in 2007. She earned her DEUG et Licence Maîtrise at the Université Charles de Gaulle-Lille 3, and her master’s and PhD degrees at Indiana.
Maria F. Fackler also becomes associate professor of English next year. She received her bachelor’s degree (summa cum laude) at Duke University and her M.A., M.Phil., and PhD at Yale.
Hilton Kelly was promoted to associate Professor of Education. He has a bachelor of arts from UNC Charlotte and a master of science and PhD from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
Emeritus status, effective Aug. 1, was granted to Ralph B. Levering, the Vail Professor of History, and Clark G. Ross, vice president for academic affairs and Dean of Faculty. He continues as the Frontis W. Johnston Professor of Economics.
Trustees also approved a series of new faculty appointments for 2013-14:
