Lauren Verlander of Davidson came across an unexpected site Wednesday outside the Target at Northcross shopping center, off Sam Furr Road in Huntersville: “There’s a boat in the parking lot,” she said in a Tweet, with a photo attached.
The incident happened about 1:45pm at the shopping center, off I-77 Exit 25.
Huntersville fire department reported later that the boat slid off its trailer when the truck driver braked suddenly for another car in front of him. Here’s the Huntersville Fire report:
Huntersville Station 1 and North Meck Rescue were dispatched to 9801 Sam Furr road for an MVA [motor vehicle accident] in the Target parking lot. Huntersville Engine 1 quickly checked en route as did North Meck (Rescue). Huntersville Engine 1 arrived on scene to find a large boat off its trailer and sitting in the parking lot. No injuries were reported and the accident was property damage only so MEDIC and North Meck were released from the call. Huntersville Police arrived and took control of the scene. The driver of the truck advised that a vehicle in front of him braked suddenly, causing him to brake quickly. The straps on the boat broke off and the boat left the trailer, sliding briefly in the parking lot.
All Huntersville crews were clear the scene by 2:05pm. Units on scene: Huntersville Engine 1, North Meck Rescue 1; MEDIC and the Huntersville Police Department. Technically this is the first boat call of 2013 for HFD…technically.

We’re looking for photos that capture the people and places that make Davidson what it is. It could be a pretty picture from an event, a youth sports team photo, a pet, a quirky wildlife photo or an oddity. Send ‘em to us (email@example.com) and we’ll consider them for publication.
Requirements: Send us whatever you have – color or black-and-white JPGs preferred. If you have the ability to do so, we ask that you resize photos to not more than 600 pixels wide. That box on the front page of the site is exactly 595 pixels by 270 pixels, if you’re able to crop yourself. But you needn’t be limited to that size.
