Nicholas Kristof

Tickets will be available beginning Monday, Nov. 19, for a Dec. 3 appearance at Davidson College by New York Times columnist and Pulitzer Prize winning author Nicholas Kristof.

Mr. Kristof will present the college’s annual Reynolds Lecture on Monday, Dec. 3, at 7:30pm in the college’s Duke Family Performance Hall. Mr. Kristof will speak about “Half the Sky,” the book he coauthored with his journalist spouse Sheryl WuDunn, and the multi-faceted social movement that the book initiated.

Half the Sky is a movement expressed on many technological platforms seeking to put an end to the oppression of women and girls worldwide, attacking what Mr. Kristof terms “the defining issue of our time.” Half the Sky brings together video, websites, school curricula, blogs and other tools to raise awareness of women’s issues, and to provide concrete steps to empower women.

Mr. Kristof and  Ms. WuDunn won the Pulitzer Prize in 1990 for their coverage of China’s Tiananmen Square riots. Mr. Kristof won a second Pulitzer in 2006 for columns on the situation in Darfur.

Mr. Kristof grew up on a farm near Yamhill, Ore. He graduated Phi Beta Kappa from Harvard College, and then won a Rhodes Scholarship to Oxford, where he studied law and graduated with first class honors. He later studied Arabic in Cairo and Chinese in Taipei. He has lived on four continents, reported on six, and traveled to more than 150 countries, plus all 50 states, every Chinese province and every main Japanese island. He has written two op-ed columns per week for the New York Times for 11 years.
