Girl Scout Troops in Huntersville, Cornelius and Davidson will be heading out Saturday, Oct. 13, to collect canned goods for the area’s two Loaves & Fishes food pantries. The girls are hoping neighbors will donate “A Can If You Can” to help feed the hungry in their communities.
Troops will go door-to-door to collect non-perishable food items on that morning. Residents also may drop off food donations at the Ada Jenkins Center, 212 Gamble St. in Davidson, between 9 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. on Oct. 13.
Food collected will be used to fill the Loaves & Fishes food pantries located at the Ada Jenkins Center and Huntersville United Methodist Church.
Priority needs include canned meat, canned fruit, canned pastas, 100 percent juice and cereal. (No glass please.)
Hundreds of girls will be participating in the drive led by the Meck 1 Service Unit Team for the Girl Scouts Hornets Nest Council. Last year the girls collected over 10,600 pounds of food for Loaves & Fishes.
