Appalachian State University police say there was no foul play involved in the death Saturday of 19-year-old Tyler Blalock, a sophomore and 2011 North Mecklenburg High School graduate.
Mr. Blalock’s body was spotted by a passerby on Saturday morning in Kraut Creek, which runs through Durham Park on the Appalachian State campus.
The 19-year-old Charlotte man was a sophomore studying sustainable development, according to the university.
Appalachian State University Police said an autopsy showed his death was by accidental drowning. “There are no indications of any foul play. The evidence collected during the investigation confirms that Blalock was alone when he slipped on the edge of the creek and struck his head on some rocks as he fell into the water,” the police said .
In statements Sunday, the university said the community was saddened by Mr. Blalock’s death. “The thoughts and concerns of the Appalachian community are with Tyler’s family and friends during this difficult
time,” a statement said.
Football fans attending Saturday’s App State game against Coastal Carolina observed a moment of silence before the kickoff.
