Did you put your trash and recycling out Wednesday morning? This week is the last under the town’s current schedule. We’re all getting new trash and recycling bins and the pickup schedule will changebeginning Oct. 1.
Contractor Republic Waste Services has been collecting our old garbage carts, and hauling them to a temporary trash can graveyard on Bradford Park Drive, off Robert Walker Drive in the Bailey Springs neighborhood. Thousands of the old brown, blue and green trash bins are stacked high awaiting removal. Meanwhile, a supply of new red recycling carts and black trash carts is awaiting delivery.
By the way, has anyone else noted the town’s choice of colors? Red and black happen to be the official colors of Davidson College, as well as the hues on your favorite local news website.

New carts are black (trash) and red (recycling), which happen to be favorite colors around these parts. (David Boraks/DavidsonNews.net)
NEW SCHEDULE
Town officials have said the old carts were to be picked up and new carts delivered last week and this week. The new, black 96-gallon carts are for garbage and red 96-gallon carts are for recycling.
Pickup schedules will change Oct. 1. Instead of trash and recycling pickups every Wednesday, Republic will collect trash weekly on different days depending on your neighborhood. Recycling will be collected every other week.
