People of all ages are invited to a night of stargazing at Fisher Farm Park on Friday, Oct. 5, from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m., sponsored by Davidson Lands Conservancy.
The Davidson College Physics Department from Davidson College and the Charlotte Astronomy Club are providing equipment and expertise for the event. Stargazers also may bring their own telescopes. And bring a flashlight, too.
The party is free, though the Davidson Lands Conservancy is encouraging people to join the organization. Annual dues are as little as $35 a year. More info at davidsonlands.org.
Fisher Farm Park is at 21215 Shearer Road on the east side of Davidson. Take East Rocky River Road to Shearer, then head north on Shearer about 1 mile and Fisher Farm Park will be on the left.
SATURDAY IN THE PARK CAMP OUT
The conservancy also is planning another event at Fisher Farm, its 2nd annual “Saturday in the Park” camp out, on Oct. 20. The event will feature nature hikes, kids activities, a camp fire and family fun, wrapping up with a night of camping in the park.
Conservancy vice president Rodney Graham said: “This event continues the Davidson Lands Conservancy’s efforts to not only conserve land, but also to promote opportunities for our citizens to enjoy these lands in a responsible fashion. As more and more people enjoy nature they’ll work even harder to protect it, and we’re trying to instill that conservation value at an early age.”
