Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities sent a crew to Kimberly Road in Davidson Tuesday night to examine the severity of what residents there called a “sinkhole.” The damage happened after a water line under the road leaked for several days.
A Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities spokeswoman said the minor leak originally was scheduled for repair on Friday. But because of calls on Tuesday night, it was “upgraded to an emergency (or immediate) repair.”
A CMU crew was on the scene late Tuesday night working on the repair.
Resident Eileen O’Flaherty sent the following note Tuesday night:
For the past few days a water main has been leaking on Kimberly Rd. near the intersection of Carson. Numerous calls to the Charlotte Water Utility have not garnered much action other than a work order that the utility hopes to address by the end of the week. In the interim the street is crumbling, water is being wasted, and residents deal with very low water pressure.
Ms. O’Flaherty said the pavement near Carson Drive caved in Tuesday night after it was run over by a car.
