Safe boating classes are offered on Lake Norman the next two Saturdays, helping boaters meet state requirements for operating personal watercraft or power boats. The Lake Norman U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a training this Saturday in Mooresville, while Lake Norman Sail & Power Squadron has one Aug. 18 in Huntersville.

AUG. 11 IN MOORESVILLE

The Lake Norman U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary offers a day-long safe-boating class this Saturday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Shepherds Fire Department, 2014 Charlotte Highway, Mooresville.

BOATING CLASS AUG. 18

The Lake Norman Sail & Power Squadron will be conducting its last Public Boater Safety Training of 2012 Saturday, Aug. 18, at 8 a.m., at the Duke Energy Environmental Center, McGuire Nuclear Station Road, Huntersville. The class includes 8 hours of instruction, followed by an examination for full certification. Pre-registration is required.

This one-day class meets all North Carolina, USCG, and NASBLA requirements for operation of a power driven vessel including a Jetski in North Carolina. Everyone under the age of 26 is required to undergo this training before they can legally operate a vessel in the state of NC.
