Police are investigating a string of vehicle thefts this week, including a Saturn Ion that was reported stolen from Shearer Street and a Honda Civic that went missing from the North Harbor Club. Officers also found a Honda Accord that had been stolen from Statesville soon after receiving the second stolen vehicle report. On July 20, Concord Road was closed briefly after a Las Vegas woman’s car struck a parked car and rolled over. And we also have a warning from a resident who lost an expensive bike to theft.
Also recently, an unknown suspect threw a bottle at a 40-year-old man as he crossed the street near the 300 block of North Main Street. Details on these incidents and more (along with a tally of the week’s arrests, citations, and traffic enforcement) may be found below.
BICYCLE THEFT WARNING
Davidson resident and triathlete Leigh-Ann Mueller told DavidsonNews.net this week that someone stole a $2,500 road bicycle from her garage in the St. Alban’s neighborhood Monday night, July 23. She’s still looking for it – it’s a Cervelo RS XS frame with 650 wheels.
She also offers a word of warning to others: “This is the time of year to be extra careful about keeping garage doors closed.”

SUNDAY, JULY 15, 3:53 p.m., 500 block of Westside Terrace – A 31-year-old woman told police that her Chevrolet Trailblazer had sustained $200 in damage when it was vandalized between June 16th and 24th. Officers were unable to observe the damage to the vehicle, however, because it was in the shop being repaired.
MONDAY, JULY 16, 7:14 p.m., 300 block of North Main Street – Officers are investigating a case of simple assault in which an unknown occupant inside of a grey Toyota Camry threw a bottle at a 40-year-old male victim as he crossed the street. The victim reported the offending vehicle’s license plate number to police.
TUESDAY, JULY 17, 10:38 p.m., 18500 block of Boulder Rock Loop – Police are investigating a case of an assault with a deadly weapon. The 33-year-old male suspect allegedly broke into a residence and threatened a couple inside, but no injuries were reported.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 5:43 a.m., 300 block of Jetton Street – Officers were dispatched to take a missing person report. Police met with the mother of a 17-year-old male who went out the night before and never came back home.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 8:10 a.m., 900 block of Shearer Street – Police are looking for a 2004 Saturn Ion after its owner reported that it was stolen sometime overnight. The total value of the vehicle was estimated at $12,000.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 10:30 p.m., 100 North Harbor Place, North Harbor Club – Police are looking for a black 1997 Honda Civic sedan after it was reported stolen. The total value of the Civic was estimated at $2,500.
WEDNESDAY, JULY 18, 11:10 p.m., 100 North Harbor Place, North Harbor Club – Police recovered a 1995 Honda Accord that had been reported stolen from a victim in Statesville. The vehicle had been abandoned when officers found it in the parking lot near where the Honda Civic mentioned above was stolen. Officers valued the Accord at $900.
THURSDAY, JULY 19, 10:49 a.m., Griffith Street at I-77 – A Huntersville man driving a 2004 Cadillac pulled out in front of a Cornelius man driving a 2012 Ford as the Cornelius man traveled East on Griffith Street. The driver of the Cadillac told police that he was attempting to cross the road to get back onto the interstate, but struck the Ford as it passed after swerving to avoid the crash. The Cadillac had to be towed away from the scene, and total combined damage to the vehicles was estimated at $1,600.
THURSDAY, JULY 19, 7:53 p.m., 128 S. Main St. – A Vilas, N.C., woman driving a 2008 Land Rover struck a Davidson man driving a 2012 Chevrolet in the rear while turning left out of the parking lot next to Summit Coffee. No injuries were reported, but total combined damage to the vehicles was estimated at $900.
FRIDAY, JULY 20, 5:39 p.m., North Main Street at Griffith Street – A Concord man told police that he had already begun turning his 2007 Mazda right onto North Main Street under a green traffic light when he had to stop due to congestion in the intersection. At this point, the driver of a 2010 Ford entered the intersection and struck the Mazda while attempting to pass it. The driver of the Ford then left the scene without stopping to provide contact information. Total damage to the Mazda was estimated at $200.
FRIDAY, JULY 20, 4:49 p.m., Concord Road at Faculty Drive, near Davidson College – A Las Vegas, NV woman struck an unoccupied 2006 Mercedes-Benz that was parked parallel to the curb at approximately 25 mph, causing her 2009 Chrysler to overturn. The Chrysler driver told police that she believed she may have fallen asleep at the wheel just prior to the accident, and that she was “so thankful” to have only struck a parked car. The driver was transported to Presbyterian Hospital – Main as a precaution. Both vehicles had to be towed away from the scene, and total combined damage was estimated at $13,000.
