Davidson’s Design Review Board on Wednesday night will look at the town’s own plans for renovating the former pumping station at the end of South Street as the new Parks & Recreation offices. The meeting also will include an initial review of MSC Industrial Direct’s plans for a “co-headquarters” at Harbour Place, off I-77 Exit 30.
PARKS & REC MOVE
The town began considering moving the parks and recreation offices from Armour Street to the South Street pump house last September. The town owns the building, and officials have said they think it can be renovated to accommodate the department’s needs. (See Sept. 28, 2011, “Town considers moving Parks & Rec offices to South St.”. This article includes preliminary cost estimates.)
Plans submitted to the DRB show minor proposed changes, including a new aluminum entry way, canvas awnings bearing the town logo, and new brickwork.
The board has added to its agenda an item reviewing new plans for Harbour Place, off I-77 Exit 30. MSC Industrial Direct Co. Inc., of Melville, N.Y., announced plans last month to build a “co-headquarters” on 14.7 acres behind the Homewood Suites hotel.
The previously approved 2006 master plan called for three buildings on the site, but MSC has said it plans to build only two, in phases. The company said last month it eventually could employ 400 people in Davidson. (See June 20, 2012, “MSC Industrial plans ‘co-HQ’ at Exit 30, up to 400 jobs.)
