HUNTERSVILLE - Sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station will sound during a regular quarterly test Wednesday, July 11, at around 11:50 a.m.
When you hear the siren at that time, there’s no alert. It’s a three-minute test by state and county officials and Duke Energy to make the sirens are operating properly.
If there were an incident at the nuclear plant on Lake Norman in Huntersville, the sirens would sound as a signal for residents to tune to a radio or TV station for an emergency message. County officials would use area stations to provide information to the public.
More information is available on Duke Energy’s website.
Meanwhile, a similar siren test is planned at noon on July 11 around the Mountain Hydro Station, on Mountain Island Lake. More info on Duke-Energy.com.
