HUNTERSVILLE – A water main broke on the main road entering Birkdale Village early Thursday afternoon, knocking out water service in the district of shops and apartments.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities spokeswoman Karen Whichard said Huntersville police initially spotted the water line break, at Birkdale Commons Parkway and Townley Road Thursday afternoon. CMU does not know what cause the break.
CMU crews are at the scene working on the problem. Repairs are expected to be completed and water service restored by midnight Thursday night.
It was the second time in a week the area around Sam Furr Road has lost water service. Another break early Saturday also resulted in a day-long water outage. Ms. Whichard said Thursday’s break is unrelated to the Saturday incident.
The utility said updates will be posted at www.cmutilities.com.
