Residents in the neighborhood around Patrick Johnston Lane and Hudson Place gathered Monday night for a bit of family fun and fundraising. About 30 people took advantage of a break in the rain for a 5K race and one-mile fun run on the Southeast Greenway.
Mary Kim Folds, Beth Cashion and Shelly Knight helped put the together the “send a kid to camp” event which raised $1,000 for The Charlotte Observer summer camp fund.
“My friends and I thought our children could easily identify with this charity and also thought it would be a good way to see folks before summer sent us in different directions,” Ms. Folds said Tuesday.
For runners, prizes included homemade cakes and other goodies. And at the evening’s end, the neighbors joined in a big water balloon fight. Afterwards the participants had a water balloon fight.
