Davidson College basketball coach Bob McKillop was pouring drinks at Flatiron Kitchen + Taphousein downtown Davidson Thursday night.
He was the latest celebrity bartender in Flatiron’s ongoing fundraising series, with proceeds benefiting Ada Jenkins Center, the regional community services center on Davidson’s west side.

Lake Norman Hospice Regatta is Friday to Sunday at the the Lake Norman Yacht Club, 297 Yacht Road, Mooresville. The event benefits Hospice & Palliative Care Lake Norman. Festivities include a Friday evening social, the regatta, an auction/raffle, games, an interfaith “memorial moment” for remembering loved ones, a Saturday dinner, and a Sunday donation cookout. Pick Your Poison 5K/10K races are planned Saturday, June 9, at Abersham Park, off Grey and Shearers roads in Davidson. Registration begins at 7 a.m. with the 10K at 8 a.m. and 5K at 8:05 a.m. The event is part of the Running for Our Communities series, races that also raise money to support community services. Proceeds from the Pick Your Poison 5K and 10K will benefit Partners for Parks, a non-profit organization devoted to promoting and enhancing parks, greenways, open space and recreation in Mecklenburg County and the surrounding region. Kids’ Finale Festival on the Green, Saturday, 5-8 p.m., Davidson Village Green, Main Street and Concord Road, Davidson. Kids can celebrate the end of the school year at the 2nd annual Finale festival, with live music from the Birdsnest, pizza, ice cream, prizes and fun. Admission $2, game tickets eight for $1 (each game 2-3 tickets). All profits go to Cornelius Animal Shelter. Organized by Davidson residents Spencer Barnes and James Shaul, sixth-graders at Bailey Middle School.
