Davidson and Cornelius firefighters had been planning to burn a vacant building off Field Street, near the Antiquity Cornelius neighborhood, all day Saturday. They issued an alert that smoke would be visible.
But late Friday, the state Department of Environmental & Natural Resources Division of Air Quality declared a code orange air quality alert for Saturday, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. So firefighters said they’ve called off the burn.

The training is planned to last from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and columns of smoke will be visible.
