The 20th Annual Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center 5K & Fun Run is scheduled this Saturday, May 19, at the Davidson Village Green. After the race, join the first Davidson Farm-to-Fork ”Taste-nic,” organized by Davidson Farmers Market and Know Your Farms.
The day begins with a 1-mile fun run at 8:30 a.m., followed by the 5k at 9 a.m., both starting from the green, at Concord Road and Main Street in Davidson. The 5K course heads south on South Street, goes through the Pines at Davidson to Avinger Lane to Pine Road, and through neighborhood streets before heading back to the green on Lorimer Road. (See a map.)
Registration and more information is available at www.davidsontiming.com. The 5K is $30 and the Fun Run is $20. Prizes will be awarded to top runners in several categories.
After the race, the first Davidson Farm-to-Fork ”Taste-nic” will offer fresh local food, cooked on the Davidson Town Green by local chefs, in a picnic-like setting. Tickets are just $7 in advance (which purchases several tastings), and are available online at the Davidson Timing website.
Bring your family, your running shoes, and your picnic blanket for a day of fun to support the non-profit Davidson-Cornelius Child Development Center.
The 40-year-old non-profit center is at 242 Gamble St. on Davidson’s west side. The state-licensed program serves families from Davidson, Cornelius, and surrounding communities and is one of the few to offer sliding scale fees. More information is at www.dc-childcare.org.
