A water line replacement project could affect traffic this week at South Main and Walnut streets in Davidson. The work began Tuesday and is expected to continue through at least Saturday, according to Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities and Davidson Public works officials.
Charlotte Mecklenburg Utilities is installing a new 24-inch water main on a portion of Walnut Street. The new line will connect with a water line running down South Main Street.
Davidson Public Works Director Doug Wright said the work is part of a larger project that eventually will replace water lines running between Hillside Drive, Cathey Street, South Street and Walnut Street.
And it’s also a prelude to another big project coming this summer. NC Department of Transportation will be resurfacing N.C. 115 from Huntersville to the Iredell County line this summer. Detour and road work signs already have begun appearing on N.C. 115 and sidestreets leading to it. They’re covered for now, but will be visible when that project begins.
