HUNTERSVILLE – Duke Energy and county officials will conduct a quarterly test of sirens around McGuire Nuclear Station on Wednesday, April 11, at about 11:50 a.m.

Duke says no public action is required during the three-minute test. By testing the sirens, state and county officials and Duke Energy ensure the sirens are operating properly.

In case of an emergency, the sirens don’t mean you need to evacuate. Instead, it’s a signal for residents to tune to a radio or TV station in their area that would carry an emergency message.

Meanwhile, a siren test also is planned at noon Wednesday around the Mountain Island Hydro Station.
