Wrecks snarl traffic on I-77 – north and south

Wrecks on both sides of I-77 through Cornelius and Davidson were backing up traffic Thursday afternoon.
The first accident happened around 1:40 p.m. A Medic unit responded along with firefighters to the wreck in the southbound lanes, just north of Exit 28/Catawba Avenue. Traffic was backed up for about five miles, to around Exit 33. NC DOT reported that congestion could remain through about 4:30 p.m.
Meanwhile, a second wreck was reported just before 3 p.m. on I-77 northbound, just before Exit 30. One person reportedly was hurt in that incident. NC DOT reported that the accident could slow traffic through at least 4:30.
No further information about the wrecks was immediately available.
