The Iredell County Commission’s vote Tuesday withholding support for the proposed Red Line Regional Rail Project came after nearly an hour of questions and discussion among commissioners. We offer audio replays of main comments from commissioners, as well as a reaction to the vote by John Woods, Davidson’s mayor and chair of the Metropolitan Transit Commission’s Red Line Task Force.

THE COMMISSION’S STATEMENT
At the end of Tuesday night’s discussion, Iredell Commissioner Ken Robertson explained that the board was adopting a statement of its position. He read it as follows:
“The Iredell County Board of Commissioners does not support the current draft business/finance plan as presented to this board during our December meeting. We believe this draft plan, as written, will lead to higher taxes for all county taxpayers despite claims to the contrary. We will reject any future proposals that fail to address the concerns that were made public tonight.”

(Board members said they want a list of commitments for developments along the rail line and an accounting of projected tax revenues. They also wanted a commitment from the state and a clearer picture of how development will affect schools. (via Facebook) – Congratulations Mayor Woods, on your well thought out comments. Having grown up in Statesville and living in Mooresville for the past 20 years, I am PROFOUNDLY disappointed with our Iredell Commissioners stance, however not in the least surprised. What’s the quote? “If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’ve got.” The story of Iredell in a nutshell!!! Crossroads of the Future…. City of Progress….. I Think Not!
Did you really think that was a great statement from Woods? All I heard was a bunch of uhs. I’d like to see Woods debate Steve Johnson on the Red Line. Johnson would rip your dear mayor to shreds!
