Davidson’s Town Clerk says she plans to step down in March and the town has begun advertising for her replacement.
Lillian Smith, who has been town clerk since July 2010, said she recently got engaged and plans to move to Wilmington in March. “I absolutely love my job and the people I work with, so it is going to be really hard to leave,” she said.
Town Manager Leamon Brice said Friday he’s sorry to see Ms. Smith leave. “Breaks my heart,” he joked. “Lillian has done a great job and we’re really going to miss her. It’ll be hard to replace her.”
The town is advertising for a new “Town Clerk and HR Coordinator,” saying the job includes all human resources functions, the town clerk’s statutory responsibilities, and providing administrative support to the town manager’s office. The clerk also handles all Town Board agendas, minutes, resolutions, and records, and maintains the official town ordinances. The candidate also “will cross-train on payroll and risk management duties,” the town says.
The job pays $34,746 – $53,856, based on qualifications and experience, though the town says it expects to hire someone in the $40,000 to $44,000 range.
Candidates must have a bachelor’s degree in human resources, public administration, or a related field, with a minimum of five years’ NC government experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The town requires a background check and drug screening.
More information and an application are available on the town website, at www.townofdavidson.org/careers.
Ms. Smith will be the second key official in Town Hall to move away in recent months. Finance chief Eric Hardy left in September for a similar job in Asheville.
