A driver lost control of his car and struck a telephone pole on Concord Road around 11:35 a.m. on Monday. A woman passenger appeared to have minor injuries after the crash, which closed the town’s main east-west street for a while.
Emergency workers on the scene said the driver was eastbound in the 700 block of Concord Road when it hit the utility pole. The collision spun the late-model Honda sedan around so it was facing the pole. The vehicle’s air bag inflated during the crash.
Davidson fire units closed the street and Medic personnel were treating the woman at the scene. Traffic was being diverted at Crescent east of the accident, and Pine and Grey Roads to the west.
The driver a Virginia man told police he was not paying attention because he was adjusting a GPS unit, according to a police report issued Thursday.
CORRECTION: This article has been updated following the release of a police report on the crash to note that the car was driven by a male driver and that the woman was a passenger in the vehicle.

UPDATE: Concord Road closed again around 245PM so utility workers could replace the broken pole. Town spokeswoman says the road between Pine and Crescent to reopen within 3 to 4 hours of that, so 545 or 645PM.
