The 2011 edition of Christmas in Davidson had a variety of ways for festival-goers to join in, including this new one: an Ugly Sweater Contest. A half-dozen brave souls paraded on the Village Green stage in their best – or worst – holiday sweaters.
Four of the six were wearing sweaters they hand-made or hand-decorated. The audience picked the winners, Brian and Aubrie Ellis, who got a trophy bearing a tiny sweater and a gift certificate to Flatiron Kitchen + Taphouse in Davidson.
Gift bags from other local merchants also were given to the two pairs of runners-up: sisters Elizabeth and Samantha Walker, and Hillary Dotson and Brooke Stevens.
