Davidson police are investigating a series of thefts from parked vehicles this week, including one case in which $800 in cash was stolen from an unlocked car. GPS devices also were the target in other break-ins. Also, a Huntersville woman was charged with DWI and hit & run Friday after leaving the scene of an accident at Griffith and North Main Streets.
Elsewhere, a motorcyclist ran into a BMW after illegally passing a number of stopped vehicles on the right as the cars waited for a Cannon School bus to drop off schoolchildren. And three wrecks involving drivers that failed to stop in time were reported, as well. INCIDENT REPORTS
TUESDAY, SEPT. 6, 12:28 p.m., Griffith Street at I-77 North off-ramp – A Landis man driving an Interstate Brands van rear-ended a Concord man’s 2006 Chevrolet at approximately 5 mph as both vehicles were pulling onto Griffith Street from Interstate-77. The Concord man had stopped while drivers in front of him waited for the traffic circle to clear. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Total combined damage was estimated at $999.
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 7, 5:20 p.m., Griffith Street at I-77 South on-ramp – A Mooresville woman driving a 2007 Honda rear-ended another Mooresville woman’s 1993 Chevrolet at approximately 5 mph after failing to reduce speed while turning onto the Interstate-77 on-ramp. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Total combined damage was estimated at $900.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 8, 3:46 p.m., Concord Road at Kimberly Road – A Davidson woman was driving her 2000 BMW west when a driver traveling east motioned for her to turn left onto Kimberly Road. Traffic had been stopped in both directions just prior while a Cannon School bus dropped off schoolchildren, and a Davidson man driving a motorcycle collided with the BMW as it turned left. Witnesses reported that the motorcyclist had been traveling in the bicycle lane and had illegally passed a number of vehicles on the right as their drivers waited for the school bus to continue on its route. Units from Medic and the Davidson Fire Department responded to the scene, but the motorcyclist refused medical treatment. Total combined damage to the vehicles was estimated at $6,000, and the motorcycle was unable to be driven from the scene.
THURSDAY, SEPT. 8, 4:51 p.m., North Main Street at Concord Road – A Charlotte man driving a 2003 Ford rear-ended a 2007 Ford as its driver waited for a pedestrian to cross the street. No injuries were reported, and both vehicles were able to be driven from the scene. Total combined damage was estimated at $400.
FRIDAY, SEPT. 9, 10:35 a.m., Main Street at Griffith Street – A Huntersville woman driving a 2003 Dodge crashed into the rear of a 2004 Nissan that was parked along the road at approximately 25 mph. The Huntersville woman then willfully drove away from the scene and and only stopped after sideswiping a nearby 2002 Ford, damaging the Ford’s side mirror. The driver was arrested on the scene for DWI and Hit & Run. Total combined damage between the three vehicles was estimated at $6,700.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 11, 8:47 a.m., 500 Block of Greenway Street – A Davidson man told officers that an unknown suspect had stolen $800 in cash from his unlocked vehicle sometime between Saturday at 4:00 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m.. Police are investigating.
SUNDAY, SEPT. 11, 1:04 p.m., 400 Block of South Street – A Davidson woman told officers that an unknown suspect had stolen a Magellan GPS valued at $200 from her vehicle sometime between Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday at 10:00. The GPS was later recovered.
MONDAY, SEPT. 12, 9:59 a.m., 626 South Street, McEver Baseball Field – An unknown suspect attempted to gain access to the concession stand sometime between Saturday at 6:00 p.m. and Monday at 9:00 a.m. The suspect inflicted $50 in damage upon the stand. Police are investigating.
MONDAY, SEPT. 12, 8:54 p.m., 400 Block of Jetton Street – An unknown suspect stole a Garmin GPS valued at $150 from a parked vehicle. Officers are investigating.

- BAILEY SPRINGS DRIVE – 1 arrested for driving while license revoked and for providing fictitious information to a police officer
- BEATY STREET – 1 citation for speeding and 2 citations for expired registration
- DAVIDSON GATEWAY DRIVE – 1 citation for failure to stop at a stop sign, 1 for expired registration, and 1 for failure to stop for a school bus stop sign
- EAST ROCKY RIVER ROAD – 1 citation for speeding and 1 driver’s license restriction violation
- GRIFFITH STREET – 6 citations for speeding and 1 for failure to yield in a traffic circle
- HIGHWAY-115 – 1 citation for speeding and 3 for expired registration/inspection
- MAIN STREET – 1 arrested for hit & run and DWI
- WATSON STREET – 3 citations for underage consumption of alcohol
- WESTSIDE TERRACE – 1 arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle
