Beginning next month, Mecklenburg County offers basic home composting classes around the area for people interested in learning more about the benefits of recycling and waste reduction.
The 2-hour, hands-on workshops are part of the county’s Organic Waste Reduction program and teach beginners the basics of home composting and residential recycling, soil preparation and management, toxicity reduction, grass cycling and mulching. Classes meet outdoors.
The county also offers a master composter class that delves deeper into organic waste reduction topics with expert speakers, hands-on activities and field-trips and includes a 40-hour volunteer summation project.
The beginner classes are limited to 20 people per class and required for anyone wishing to participate in the master composter program.Pre-registration is required.
