Davidson Police Department and other local groups will host a community cookout and crime-prevention festival Tuesday night at Roosevelt Wilson Park, off Griffith Street. It’s part of the National Night Out, a series of events in cities and towns nationwide.
Other area towns are planning similar events. This is the 28th year for the National Night Out event, which was introduced in 1984 by the National Association of Town Watch. Last year, more than 37 million people participated in events in 15,000 communities in all 50 states, U.S. territories, military bases and Canada.
Davidson’s celebration is co-sponsored by the police department, Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center and North Meck Crime Stoppers. It will run from 6 to 8 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Participants will have the chance to chat with Davidson police officers and other Davidson citizens and enjoy a hamburger or two.
