WDAV-FM, the Davidson-based classical music radio station, has hired Matt Rogers as its new midday host, and named J. Rodger Clark as director of development and corporate support. The station announced the appointments this week.
Mr. Rogers has appeared on the air during the station’s end-of-year fundraiser this week, and will host his first shift on Monday, June 27.
Mr. Rogers fills a vacancy created in February with the departure of longtime host Jennifer (Foster) Roe.
He’s a Gastonia native who returns to the Charlotte region after a stint at WVTF Public Radio in Roanoke, Va. While in Roanoke, he joined the staff of New Life Christian Fellowship at Virginia Tech, serving in several roles, including pastor.
Mr. Rogers is the author of two books: “When Answers Aren’t Enough: Experiencing God as Good When Life Isn’t” (Zondervan) and “Losing God: Clinging to Faith Through Doubt and Depression” (InterVarsity). He has a bachelor’s degree in broadcast management from Campbell University.
The development director’s job had been vacant for a couple of years. Mr. Clark, a former U.S. Marine, has 19 years’ experience in non-profit development in Pennsylvania, most recently as director of corporate development or The Mann Center for the Performing Arts in Philadelphia. He also formerly worked as development director at the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra. He has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maryland and master of divinity degree from Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, Ky.
“Rodger and Matt are great additions to the WDAV staff,” WDAV interim general manager Kim Cline said in a press release.
“Rodger has an outstanding – and rare! – combination of experience we need, given his background in development and corporate support. His personal love of classical music will make him a quick favorite with our supporters – and we’re hoping he won’t need to call on his Marine training!”
“As for Matt, we were immediately impressed with his personable and knowledgeable on-air style. He begins his regular midday hosting duties on Monday, June 27, and we’ll introduce him to listeners as a co-host during this week’s three-day on-air membership campaign.
WDAV (89.9 FM) is a service of Davidson College.
