Wes Wehunt joind Davidson Day School as its new head of lower and lower middle school. He comes to Davidson Day after four years as the head of lower school at Augusta Preparatory Day School in Augusta, Ga. He replaces Michael Cerkovnik, who will become head of educational innovation at the school.

”Wes’ educational philosophy is such a perfect fit for our school,” Head of School Bonnie Cotter said in a press release. “He shares our commitment to respect each child as an individual and promote character growth and continual development of globally relevant skills.”

Prior to his role as head of lower school at Augusta Preparatory Day School, he spent 3 years as head of lower school at St. John’s Episcopal School in Olney, Md., where he also spent four years as director of admission and five years as the lower school dean of students.

“I am thrilled with the opportunity to join the Davidson Day School community,” Mr. Wehunt said in a statement. “I am really looking forward to August when I will have the chance to meet and welcome all of our 2-year-old through sixth-grade students with anticipation of a great school year.”

“There are two things that initially attracted my wife and me to Davidson Day,” Mr. Wehunt said. “And that’s the people and the program.” The Wehunts’ three children will attend Davidson Day.

Mr. Wehunt earned his Masters of Education from Marymount University in Alexandria, Va. in 2007 and his Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., in 1997.
