Downtown Davidson filled with residents and visitors Saturday morning for a community-oriented Town Day that lacked some of the hustle and bustle of other Town Days in recent years, but made up for it with the annual Day Care Dash 5K and fun run, music, food, games, a library patio dedication and several community service projects that brought neighbors together.
See our photo gallery from Saturday’s events below.
Downtown Director Kim Fleming said a few people quizzed her about missing features, from the bungee jump to the tot train. But others told her and DavidsonNews.net that they enjoyed the event. (See related story: May 6, 2011, “Town Day 2011 focuses on service projects”)
At 10 a.m., a crowd gathered in front of the library branch on the Village Green to dedicate a new brick patio, created with bricks donated by library supporters as part of a $211,000 campaign to keep the library open this year. Sawyer Bowman of Woodlawn School and Jessica Pinkerton of Charlotte won the Day Care Dash 5K race early in the day. The event was a fundraiser for Davidson Cornelius Child Development Center. (See related post, “Bowman, Pinkerton win Day Care Dash 5K”)
