Downtown Davidson got another new business Thursday – not a storefront, but a cart in front of the CVS. Hot Diggitee Dogz, a fast food shop on Mock Road on the West Side, has expanded its business with the hot dog cart it hopes to operate at lunchtime on weekdays.

Courtney Sanchez was serving hot dogs at the cart on Thursday. She said plans are to open the cart weekdays from 11 to 3.

Marnie Donoghue and her son Jack, 3, were her first customers, stumbling on the cart as the came out of the CVS. “We just came to the CVS and saw the hot dog cart out here,” she said. As the first customers, she said, “We’re honored, and the hot dog is very good.”

“It’s fast and cheap,” she added.

Bob Barton of Davidson owns Hot Diggitee Dogz, at 300 Mock Road near the Ada Jenkins Center. He won approval at the April 27 Design Review Board to operate the sidewalk cart.

The town ordinance allows street carts at designated locations on Main Street, available to vendors on a first-come basis. The carts’ designs, size and signage must be approved by the Design Review Board.

Last October, another applicant sought approval for a cart in the same spot, but has since dropped plans.
