Karen Cimino WilsonThe Davidson Elementary School Tiger Fund Direct Giving Campaign is continuing through Sept. 17. Also below, robotics team  coaches are needed at Davidson Day, a fall-fund-raising campaign at Bailey Middle School beginning Friday, and other local school news.

TIGER FUND DRIVE

Information about this year’s Tiger Fund campaign at Davidson Elementary School was sent home in the Parent Teacher Organization Kick Start package at the school’s open house.

The Tiger Fund helps support the PTO budget each year and is the only Davidson Elementary School fund-raiser where 100 percent of each donation and any matching funds go directly to the school.

Past donations allowed the PTO to purchase several items over the summer. The school now has the Accelerated Reader Enterprize Program, which means the school has access to all the AR practice quizzes that exist. The school will continue to have access to new quizzes as the company adds them to their Web site and also will have access to all (800+) literacy skills quizzes. Those quizzes cover in-depth reading comprehension skills and designed to align with the Standard Course of Study in Reading Comprehension.

The PTO also purchased a new gym divider, Latta Plantation education classes, agendas, math investigation support materials, notebooks and a biography collection for the media center.

WANTED: ROBOTICS TEAM COACHES

Davidson Day School’s new Robotics program has registered three junior teams, one middle school team and one upper school team with USFirst.  There’s enough interest for two more teams if the school can find coaches.

Anyone interested in coaching the teams, sponsoring the second middle school team or mentoring should email Dana Monticello atmonticello6@gmail.com.

The upper school team has space for a few more students and wait-lists are open for the junior and middle school teams.

BAILEY MIDDLE FUND-RAISING

Bailey Middle School’s Parent Teacher Association Fall Fundraiser will kick off on Friday. The school will sell the Bailey Middle School City Treasure discount card this year.

All students will receive the discount cards on Friday and will be asked to take them home and sell them to their families and neighbors.

The money raised will be used to buy books and equipment for the school’s media center, equipment for the elective classes, physical education equipment, and to support all the teachers and staff.

BAILEY STARTS ROBOTICS TEAM

Bailey Middle School will start a Robotics Team this year.

The team will compete in local and state competitions. The school needs up to eight students to join the team.
