Davidson has grown to a point where it’s ready to have its own Rotary Club, area Rotarians said this week. So they’re planning an informational meeting for potential members on Monday morning, July 26, to get the ball rolling.
The meeting begins at 8:15 a.m. at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church, 301 Caldwell Lane, off Concord Road.

Rotary District 7680 Governor nominee Chris Jones speaks to a gathering at St. Alban's Church earlier this week.
The Lake Norman area already has several clubs, including groups in Huntersville and Cornelius, and several in Mooresville. They’re all part of Rotary International, which has 1.2 million members around the world.
Monday’s meeting is a followup to one last week at St. Alban’s where members of area clubs met to discuss the idea. Leading that meeting was Chris Jones, the nominee for governor of Rotary District 7680, which serves west-central North Carolina.
Paul Herbert, an assistant governor in District 7680, said the new club proposal is a reflection of Davidson’s growth.
“The idea is that Davidson is up and coming. .. It’s its own presence in this part of the world and adds a color and texture to the Lake Norman area,” he said Thursday. “It’s time to look at Rotary as a service organization based in Davidson.”
Business leaders and managers are invited to Monday’s meeting, where they’ll have a chance to become charter members of the new club, Mr. Herbert said. In addition, the club also could become home to residents or businesspeople in Davidson who currently participate in other area clubs.
Rotary requires 20 members for a new club to obtain a charter, according to Mr. Herbert.
