Just how violent was Friday night’s thunderstorm? You’ve already seen elsewhere on the site today the photos of the massive tree that fell on the Phillips family’s home, on Ney Circle. Today, we share a photo from reader Jeanne Neumann, who discovered that one of her trees had been struck by lightning.  The tree looks like like some giant animal has clawed it, nearly from top to bottom.

The storm came up quickly on Friday night around 8 p.m. Strong winds took down trees all over the old part of town and knocked down power lines. At one point, hundreds of people in parts of old Davidson and the McConnell neighborhood were without power.

Town public works employees and utility crews restored power and reopened most blocked streets on Saturday.
