Donald Francis Rooney, 85, of Mooresville, passed away on Saturday, July 10, 2010, at the Serenity House in Mooresville. Visitation is Thursday, with services Friday. Details below.
He was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Yonkers, N.Y., son of the late William J. and Elizabeth Cooney Rooney.
He was also preceded in death by sisters Dolores McLaughlin, Joan Ward and Jacqueline Brown; brothers, Tom, William, James and Robert Rooney.
Mr. Rooney worked for Burlington Mills (formerly Mooresville Mills) for 20 years. He was owner/operator of an upholstery shop in New York and was also an avid wood worker.
Mr. Rooney served in the U. S. Army in World War II. He was a member of the Mooresville Church of God.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Maxine Waycaster Rooney; a daughter, Theresa Rooney Smith and husband, Tommy, of Mooresville; son, Dennis Jay Rooney of Richmond, Texas; grandchildren, Jason and Casey Smith and great grandson, Tyler Isaiah: sister, Patricia Lombi of Florida, and brother, Joseph Rooney of Leesburg, Fla.
Visitation for Mr. Rooney will be at Cavin-Cook Funeral Home Wednesday, July 14, 6-8 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the Mooresville Church of God, Thursday, July 15, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Donny Wise officiating.
Burial will follow in the Salisbury National Cemetery, Salisbury.
