Runoff elections are scheduled today (Tuesday) in Republican and Democratic races for the fall ballot. Democrats will choose a candidate for U.S. Senate. Republicans in U.S. House district 12 (including Davidson) will vote between two potential challengers for the seat now held by U.S. Rep. Mel Watt. Also below, news about a new campaign office opening Friday for the North Mecklenburg Republican Women.
Polls are open today 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. More information about local voting and polling stations is available on the Mecklenburg County Board of Elections website, meckboe.org.
Davidson voters will cast their ballots at either Town Hall, 216 S. Main St. (those who live in the old part of town) or Hopewell Baptist Church, 18841 Davidson-Concord Road (residents of the east part of town). Check the Mecklenburg Board of Elections site above for your voting location.
DISTRICT 12 REPUBLICAN RUNOFF
Greg Dority of Washington, N.C., and Scott Cumbie of Winston-Salem are squaring off in today’s Republican runoff for the District 12 seat.

DEMOCRATIC SENATE RUNOFF
In the Democratic runoff, Elaine Marshall and Cal Cunningham are vying for a chance to challenge incumbent U.S. Sen. Richard Burr, a Republican, this fall.

Mr. Cunningham is a former state senator from Davidson, Rowan and Iredell counties. He has worked as a military prosecutor in Iraq. His campaign website www.calfornc.com has a full official biography.
REPUBLICAN WOMEN OPENING ELECTION OFFICE
North Mecklenburg Republican Women will hold an opening reception Friday, June 25, at 7 p.m., for a new “Win in 2010″ election office at 8301-17 Magnolia Estates Drive, Cornelius.
