Charlotte Mecklenburg School Board will meet Tuesday night at 6 p.m. in Charlotte to vote on a 2010-11 budget. The plan won’t include bell-schedule changes at Davidson IB, Piedmont Open Middle and Smith Academy, as the system has found other areas to cut.
Parents had turned out in force to object to the schedule changes, which would have pushed back the school day by 90 minutes. That meant Davidson IB Middle School would have opened at 9:30 a.m. and ended the day at 4:30.
The budget still includes another CMS cost-cutting move, ending neighborhood bus service for some magnet school families.
CMS will find savings elsewhere in the budget by cutting money for Advance Placement and IB exams, shifting that cost to parents, and by cutting CMS TV.
