Fifth Third Bank is hosting a Fifth Third One Bank celebration Friday, April 30, from 10:30 to 3, behind its offices at 124 S. Main St.
Branch manager Blaine Stein said they’ll have hot dogs, sodas, prizes, and “fun in the sun.” It’s free and open to the public.
In preparation for the event, and this weekend’s Town Day and Davidson Farmers Market opening, Fifth Third has been sprucing up the area behind its branch, including repairing and repainting the wooden benches in the Knox Court courtyard. Queen City Paint and Wall Covering of Sherrill’s Ford has been doing the work.
Friday’s gathering will also be a fund-raiser for the Davidson Cornelius Day Care center. If you grab a hot dog, put a bit in the kitty for the day care.
CYCLE CENTER OPENSTyler Hampton recently open his doors at 109 N. Main St. as Davidson Cycle Center. The shop is a labor of love for the 20-year-old, who is a semiprofessional motocross racer and a big fan of bikes.
Mr. Hampton offers parts, accessories and service on ATVs, personal watercraft and motorcycles. He also plans to ship and mail parts as well as sell items in the store. His goal is to provide a level of customer service not available elsewhere.
“That’s my primary focus,” he said recently. “I can get anything you need. I can pretty much order anything you need in a few days.”
He said he was motivated to start the business in part because there are few motorcycle shops between Charlotte and Statesville.
Mr. Hampton will be an authorized dealer for FTI Racing of Thomasville. That means he can accept drop-offs and pickups of racing motors at the shop.
“As it grows, I’ll get a lot more in stock.
Mr. Hampton is the son of Mike Hampton of Mooresville, who is a top professional motorcycle rider.
The Davidson Cycle Center is in a building owned by Mr. Hampton’s grandfather, Don Copeland. It formerly housed Ink to Go, which closed in December. (See Feb. 16, 2010, “Closings: Ink to Go, Amity & Bailey; plans for Copeland sites.” )
